A Blackwell, Oklahoma man who traveled more than 175 miles to meet who he thought was a minor child for sex was arrested in Ottawa County over the weekend.
Authorities say 62-year-old Michael Daly was booked into the Ottawa County jail on several complaints including making lewd or indecent proposals to a minor child under the age of 16.
Ottawa County Sheriff Terry Durborow said his office is part of the nationwide Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, which is administered by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for the state of Oklahoma.
"The ICAC Task Force allows officers at the city, county, state, and federal levels that are engaged in the investigation of these types of crimes to be linked nationally and it also allows for extra training for these officers in these areas," Durborow said.
Sheriff Durborow said Daly began chatting with who he thought was an underage child about one month ago. Daly learned at the time of his arrest that the "child" he had been chatting with was actually Ottawa County Undersheriff Bob Ernst.
Sheriff Durborow said there were ten separate chats between the two and in each chat, the talk turned extremely sexually explicit. In a news release, Durborow says Daly made plans to travel to Miami, Oklahoma to meet with the child at a local convenience store and then planned on taking the child "driving around" and also planned to engage in sex acts with the child at that time.
Daly appeared in Ottawa County District Court on Tuesday and bond was set in the amount of $100,000.
