An elderly woman is dead after the car she was riding in was struck by a man whom authorities suspected of being drunk. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports, 79-year-old Hughla Som de Cerff of Sand Springs died at the hospital on Saturday. The driver of the vehicle, 78-year-old Ben Som de Cerff was admitted into the hospital in serious condition.
The accident happened on I-244 southbound, south of 31st Street around 11 p.m. on Friday.
OHP troopers say 22-year-old, Cebon Pettie was speeding when the vehicle rear-ended the elderly couple's car. The impact sent the car into the center wall barrier.
Emergency crews transported the couple to a Tulsa hospital.
Pettie was not injured, but was arrested on complaints of DUI, possession of marijuana, driving under suspension, transporting open container and manslaughter in the first degree.
Pettie was taken to the Tulsa County jail.
