BROKEN ARROW, OKLA. - Tournament officials have confirmed all nine Team SemGroup competitors will be part of the field at the upcoming SemGroup Championship presented by John Q. Hammons. The SemGroup Championship will be held May 1 - 4 at Cedar Ridge Country Club.
Current Team SemGroup points leader Lorena Ochoa committed last week, and she will be joined by all of her teammates, including 2006 champion and defending Team SemGroup winner Cristie Kerr and teen phenom Morgan Pressel.
"Team SemGroup embodies the soul of the LPGA Tour. Each of these ladies is a strong, talented athlete with passion to win, and each mirrors SemGroup's commitment to give back through charitable giving," said Tom Kivisto, SemGroup, L.P. president and chief executive officer. "The 2008 SemGroup Championship very well may represent the strongest LPGA field to come to Tulsa."
Team SemGroup is a collection of nine top LPGA Tour professionals who have exhibited a commitment to philanthropy. The 2008 members are: Ochoa, Kerr, Pressel, Stacy Prammanasudh, Natalie Gulbis, Christina Kim, Helen Alfredsson, Carin Koch and Karin Sjodin. Team members compete in Official LPGA Tour events throughout the year in a points race with the champion receiving a $25,000 donation to the charity of her choice. This year's competition will run through November, concluding at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational presented by Banamex and Corona.
The SemGroup Championship could be a huge momentum swing for all of the team members, as double points will be up for grabs.
Two-time Team SemGroup champion Kerr is no stranger to Cedar Ridge. She fired a course record 61 (-10) during the second round of her victory in 2006. Kerr won the 2007 U.S. Women's Open, her crown jewel of 10 career LPGA Tour victories.
Pressel is one of the top, young players on the LPGA Tour. At 18 years old, she became the youngest major champion ever by winning the 2007 Kraft Nabisco Championship.
University of Tulsa alums Stacy Prammanasudh and Carin Koch will be sure to have the hometown support as they each attempt to win their third career Tour title.
Gulbis and Kim have two of the most outgoing and engaging personalities on Tour and are known for their fashion sense. However, they also have game, as Gulbis won the 2007 Evian Masters and Kim is a two-time champion.
Alfredsson, a five-time Tour winner, was the 2007 European Solheim Cup team captain.
Sjodin is an Oklahoma State alum and one of the biggest hitters on Tour. She was the 2007 driving distance leader, averaging 275.8 yards. Last year, Sjodin was tied for the lead in Tulsa after three rounds before finishing T19.
Now entering its eighth year in the Tulsa area, the SemGroup Championship presented by John Q. Hammons has become one of the premier events on the LPGA Tour, annually attracting a top field of players, great crowds and tremendous community support.
