Many of us are tired of paying more than $3 a gallon for gas. The News On 6's Melissa Maynarich reports one Oklahoma man has found a solution for himself. Instead of using gas, he greases up and goes.
Every day Mike Spencer drives to and from his Smokehouse Restaurant in his truck, that used to run on diesel fuel. Now, it runs on vegetable oil.
After the staff at the Smokehouse prepares the okra and fries, they drain the remaining grease out of the cookers. It amounts to 11 gallons, twice a week.
Two years ago, Mike started to use the grease, for gas.
He mixes the vegetable oil, a bit of unleaded fuel, kerosene, a diesel clean, and an additive. The cost is less than 50 cents a gallon. And over the past two years, it's saved him $8,000.
Mike uses his truck for his restaurant business and for catering and says anything to bring his costs down is worth it for him.
