Oklahoma is celebrating Arbor Day for an entire week. To mark the occasion, several Broken Arrow students from Oakcrest Elementary planted eight redbud trees at Arrowhead Park on Tuesday.
Oklahoma Urban Forester Mark Bays also spoke to students about the importance of Arbor Day and about preserving our trees.
"Things that we were challenging them with when they left this tree planting today as they go home and as they look at the trees that they have in their yards and their neighborhoods, just to be thankful to the people before them that planted those trees," said Mark Bays.
Bays says we need to remember the benefits of having trees and be more rigorous in replacing those we lost in the December ice storm.
