A body was found Tuesday afternoon floating in a south Tulsa creek near 81st and Lewis. The News On 6's Chris Wright reports authorities are still trying to figure out exactly how the man ended up in the creek.
The body of 20-year-old Joseph Pearson was discovered in Fred Creek behind a Wal-Mart at four Monday afternoon.
Police say several people called them after seeing it floating downstream. TPD and fire crews arrived to work on retrieving the body. Police say there are no signs of foul play. They say it did not look the body had been in the water for very long.
With all the rain we've received in the past 24 hours, police say everyone needs to steer clear of all creeks.
"We talk about flood waters, and we talk all the time about not driving into flood waters, and trying to cross. And this possibly could have been an example of why you shouldn't," said Tulsa Police Officer Jason Willingham.
Residents at a nearby apartment complex tell The News On 6 there are a series of stepping stones across Fred Creek.
They say people often use them to get to the Wal-Mart. But, police say they are not sure where this man fell into the creek. The Medical Examiner's office is performing an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
