First-graders at Regent Preparatory School took a step back in time on Friday to re-visit the roots of our founding fathers. The students have been studying what the "New World" might have been like and they got a hands-on experience.
Teachers say it's important for the kids to take part in Colonial-style activities to really soak in the knowledge of their history lesson.
The kids have been making ink and cutting fabric for weeks in order to prepare for Friday's activities.
"We have silhouette drawing, and then we have jam making, we have candle making, quill pin, tin punch for the boys and doll making for the girls. Then we will have a lunch we'll serve a colonial style lunch," said Tiffanie Garrett, Colonial Chair.
Students also enjoyed a Colonial style lunch of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and a biscuit with jam.
