The Sand Springs city council will decide Monday evening whether or not to grant a permit allowing a company to open a rock quarry in southeast Sand Springs.

The city's planning commission denied the permit in December, but Westward Environmental appealed the decision.  The company wants to develop the quarry on 515 acres of vacant land located between Avery Drive and 41st Street, east of state Highway 97.

A nearby homebuilder's association says the quarry would hurt property values but lawyers for Westward Environmental say their client has a right to develop its property and residents concerns over blasting are unwarranted.

Monday's meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the Plaza Community Center, 420 Plaza Court in Sand Springs.
