The Sand Springs city council will be holding a special meeting on Monday, February 18 to consider the appeal of a permit to locate a limestone quarrying operation in their community.

Sand Springs Materials LLC. is seeking the permit to quarry limestone over a 25-year period from 515 acres of vacant land located between Avery Drive and 41st Street, east of state Highway 97.

The company's permit request was denied by Sand Springs Planning Commission in December.

Sand Springs city attorney David Weatherford says there will be no public comments allowed during the meeting.

"The appeal is for Council to consider the testimony and documents presented to the Planning Commission during its hearings on this matter," Weatherford said. "There will not be any new information or materials introduced into the record."

Monday's meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the Plaza Community Center, 420 Plaza Court in Sand Springs.
