Betty Brewer is celebrating the gallant efforts of her dog, Bessy Mae, who helped save the life of a neighbor in her retirement village. Brewer says it all started one morning around 4 a.m., when Bessy woke up desperately wanting to go outside.
After several attempts to get her dog to go back to sleep, Brewer went outside and heard the sound of someone in pain coming from an upstairs apartment. Brewer immediately called the gate man to help her see what was wrong.
"So he unlocked the door and we went in and there was Rosie Sylvester on the floor, had a stroke between her bedroom and bath and Bessy sat by her. Bessy never left her side until they took her away in the ambulance," said Betty Brewer.
Bessy Mae was presented an award of heroism Saturday after being nominated through her vet's office.
