Remembering An Oklahoma Soldier Killed In Iraq

An Oklahoma soldier killed in Iraq was laid to rest Saturday afternoon. 19-year-old Coweta native Cody Carver died October 30th, only weeks after being deployed overseas. News On 6 reporter Chris Wright attended Carver's funeral and reports those who spoke at the service described Cody as a kid who was full of energy and someone who wanted to make a difference.

Speakers at the memorial service in Coweta say Cody Carver was able to make a difference before he was killed in combat. Several hundred mourners crowded into the gym at Coweta High School to pay their respects. Cody attended school at Coweta and enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after graduating.

Carver completed basic training in June, and had just left for Iraq at the end of September. Only a month later, he was dead, killed by an improvised explosive device.

Mourners remembered Cody as compassionate son and friend, and a hero in the truest sense of the world.

"This was truly a life of accomplishment. Look at the lives he touched. They're not all here, they're not all represented here. This is a sampling of what a life can do in 19 short years," said Rev. Larry Brown with the Coweta First Assembly of God church.

The medals earned by Private Carver were given to his family during the service. Those honors included both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.

The 19-year-old enjoyed racing cars, riding motorcycles, and skate boarding. Cody Carver is survived by his parents and two brothers, all of whom live in Haskell.
