CAPITOL HILL (AP) -- A House Iraq war-spending bill is expected to meet some stiff opposition.
The legislation falls well short of President Bush's funding request for Afghanistan and Iraq and requires him to start bringing troops home immediately. It would finance only about four months of combat in Iraq.
House Republican Leader John Boehner calls the bill "backward and irresponsible." He's dismissing it as a "political stunt."
The White House rejected a similar measure in May, and Democrats lacked the votes to override the veto. This latest proposal seems headed down a similar road.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she could call a vote on the bill as soon as Friday.
