WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush continues to push his choice for attorney general, using his weekly radio address to describe Michael Mukasey as a "man of character."
President Bush says Michael Mukasey has been praised by both Republicans and Democrats for "his honesty, intellect, fairness and independence."
Mukasey has been criticized by Democrats for refusing to say whether he considers waterboarding an illegal interrogation technique.
On Friday, Democratic Senators Dianne Feinstein and Chuck Schumer, who suggested Mukasey to the White House, agreed to back the attorney general nominee.
Their backing virtually assures that the Senate Judiciary Committee will recommend his confirmation to the full Senate when it votes next Tuesday.
Leaders in both parties expect Mukasey to get at least 70 votes from the full Senate.
