DENVER (AP) -- The FBI is investigating what happened on Monday when computer servers were overwhelmed when people tried to buy tickets to the World Series in Denver. The National League Champion Rockies claim that an, "external, malicious attack" on computers halted the sale of tickets.
Servers handling the online sale were overwhelmed by the 8.5 million hits in the first 90 minutes Monday. A spokesman for MLB says the system was overloaded by powerful computers programmed to constantly generate five-digit codes meant to prove that an actual person is trying to buy tickets.
The system crashed and the Rockies had to suspend sales until Tuesday.
