OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The head of the state Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control says gangs are moving into rural areas of Oklahoma.
Darrell Weaver said Wednesday the gangs are moving away from larger cities because those police departments are making progress on cracking down on gang activity.
Weaver says fewer law officers in rural areas are trained on how to deal with gangs. He spoke to a joint meeting of the Oklahoma Youth and Gang Violence Coordinating Council and the Oklahoma Gang Intervention Steering Committee.
The two committees include law officers, state agencies and groups that work with juveniles. They plan to propose legislation next year aimed at fighting gangs in Oklahoma.
