CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- Two female Navy sailors are dead and the alleged shooter is in critical condition in what may be a case of a jilted ex-boyfriend shooting his ex-girlfriend.

That's the word from a State Department official in Washington. He says initial reports from Bahrain suggested the incident may have been the result of a "love triangle." The official says it isn't clear if the second female victim was romantically involved.

The Navy says the alleged shooter apparently shot himself.

The violence occurred in the barracks of a U.S. military base in Bahrain. The Navy says it wasn't terror related and only involved American personnel.
