MEXICO CITY (AP) _ Tropical Storm Kiko was moving parallel to Mexico's Pacific coastline Friday, and forecasters warned the storm could kick up strong waves, winds and rains on land.

The tropical storm was expected to strengthen to a hurricane Saturday, but forecasters at the U.S. National Hurricane Center said its eye was expected to stay off shore.

With the storm just off the coast of the port of Manzanillo, a tropical storm watch was issued for a stretch of coastline south of the resort of Puerto Vallarta.

The storm had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and was inching toward the northwest at 3 mph. Forecasters warned it could dump up to 10 inches of rain on land.
