ALVA, Okla. (AP) -- A woman convicted of killing her 6-year-old son who has not been seen in five years was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without parole
Katherine Rutan was sentenced Tuesday in the death of Logan Tucker who disappeared in 2002. Rutan's attorneys asked for a sentence of life with the chance of parole.
Rutan was convicted in August of killing the boy despite the fact the child's body has never been found.
Prosecutors say Rutan killed Logan then took his body to a remote area to be disposed of.
Rutan wrote in a presentencing report filed under seal last month that her brother and his girlfriend had taken Logan, which is the same story she initially told police.
But prosecutors say hotel records and witnesses prove the brother was in Maryland at the time the boy disappeared.
Family and friends of Rutan testified during her trial that she gave differing versions of what happened to Logan including that he was taken by child welfare workers.
