Students at two Oklahoma schools will not have to worry about forgetting their locker’s combination. The schools are getting rid of lockers in an effort to keep students safe.
Mustang and U.S. Grant High Schools removed lockers as part of a unique national trend. Students are issued two sets of each textbook, one for in the classroom and one for their homes. This new system eliminates the need for lockers.
School leaders say safety was one reason they took out the lockers.
"Every time there was a bomb scare or threat, the process was the principal and security staff would have to go through and check every single locker to make sure it was safe," said Charles Bradley, Mustang High Assistant Principal.
Bradley says the school will save money because students are less likely to damage or lose books.
