A Tulsa woman is back home and glad to be sleeping in her own bed. Lisa Lawson is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and she has spent 2 years and 3 tours in Iraq. But, for now, she says she is home. News On 6 reporter Carina Sonn reports Lisa Lawson’s return is a happy homecoming.
Lisa’s husband, Denny, says, at first, his wife was scared about going overseas because she had never done that kind of work before. He says now he’s trying to keep her in Green Country.
Family members greeted Lisa Lawson on Thursday night after her plane landed at Tulsa International Airport.
While in Iraq, Lisa Lawson worked with Iraqi contractors to build roads, schools, and water treatment plants. She says it was difficult leaving her family, but going felt like the right thing to do.
"It's part of history and I made my mark over there and my legacy since I've been there so long, so many people that I've met and really sad to leave because you become attached,†said U.S. Army Corps of Engineer Lisa Lawson.
Before going to Iraq, Lisa Lawson had worked on civil engineering projects in the United States. She was part of an emergency response team that would help cities across the U.S.
Lawson says it's a good time to be home. She wanted to make sure she would be back in Oklahoma to see her daughter graduate from college.
