Some Tulsa elementary school students got a lesson in safety on "Walk to School Day". Tulsa Police and the Safe Kids Coalition were at several schools talking with children about the importance of being safe on the way to class.
Students and parents at Lanier Elementary School at 17th and Harvard participated Wednesday morning. Walking is such good exercise, but the Safe Kids Coalition says it's important to know the dangers near your school.
"Let's make it a real safety message, make it something the child can understand, enable them to do it themselves, give them the ability and then they're real proud of themselves," says Mary Beth Ogle with the Safe Kids Coalition.
The Safe Kids Coalition offers checklists for parents to fill out so they know the specific dangers near their children's school.
Meanwhile, News On 6 anchor Jennifer Loren joined students at Henry Zarrow International School at 2714 South 90th East Avenue for their "Walk to School Day". Jennifer says she is passionate about encouraging kids to exercise, and this program allowed her to do just that.
