LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ Members of Nebraska's defense say they're getting better.
The Huskers beat Iowa State 35-17 on Saturday after allowing 23-point underdog Ball State to roll up 610 yards in a 41-40 Nebraska victory the week before.
Iowa State generated 415 yards against Nebraska and the Cornhuskers dropped from 75th to 77th on this week NCAA total defense chart. The Huskers are averaging almost 409 yards allowed a game.
But defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove said the Huskers took a big step against the Cyclones. He says his charges played with confidence.
After allowing Ball State 12 plays of 20 yards or longer last week, the Huskers gave up just five big plays to the Cyclones.
They also sacked Meyer three times to double their season total.
