Oklahoma motorists need to be extra careful driving to work on Monday. Monday is International Walk to School Day. Every year more than 600 kids are killed in pedestrian related accident, so the Tulsa Police, Safe Kids and Fed-Ex have teamed up to make sure children know how to stay safe walking or biking to school.

The Tulsa Police Department will offer life-saving tips Monday at Lanier Elementary School, located at 1727 South Harvard. Events kick off at 8:30 a.m. on the westside of the school in the parking lot.

The first Walk To School Day started in Chicago in 1997. Just five years later, children, parents and teachers in all 50 states joined nearly three million walkers around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day.

Walk to School Day is aimed at enhancing children’s health, improving the environment and creating a safer, more walkable America. To learn more about Walk to School day visit their website, www.walktoschool-usa.org.
