OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Steven E. Moore, the chairman and chief executive officer of OG&E Energy Corporation, has died after an eight-year fight with cancer, company officials said.

The 61-year-old Moore died Saturday after a relapse of parotid cancer, or cancer of the salivary glands.

He had spent the last 11 years as the top executive for OGE Energy.

Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett praised Moore as an ``extraordinary civic leader'' who ``always played a major role in chamber initiatives.''

Moore was born in Sayre in 1946 and grew up in Altus, where he graduated from high school. He received a bachelor's degree in 1968 and a law degree in 1971, both from the University of Oklahoma. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1968 to 1974.

He worked as the state's assistant attorney general from 1971 to 1974 before joining OG&E as a staff attorney.

In 1996, he was named the company's chairman, president and CEO.
