Former state Senator Gene Stipe of McAlester is expected to complete his federal court ordered "mental competency" evaluation by the end of the week. Stipe has been at a federal prison hospital in Springfield, Missouri since last week.
A federal judge in Muskogee ordered the evaluation after a court hearing in late August in which the judge said Stipe appeared to be drugged or hypnotized. The judge also questioned whether Stipe understood the charges against him.
Federal prosecutors say Stipe violated the terms of his probation by taking part in illegal campaign fundraising.
