OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Former police officer and Colorado rector Edward J. Konieczny has been installed as the fifth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma.
Katharine Jefferts Schori, the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church USA, presided over the consecration ceremony for the 53-year-old Konieczny on Saturday at Oklahoma City University.
Konieczny now is the chief pastor of about 18,000 people in 72 congregations in the Oklahoma diocese. He replaces Robert Moody, who retired after serving as the diocese's bishop since 1989.
Konieczny says he is honored and humbled to serve as the diocese's new bishop and that he hopes that he earns that honor.
