ADA, Okla. (AP) -- East Central University has received a $1 million federal grant to fund the development of a program with five other state schools to help prevent violence against women.
The other schools in the Regional University System of Oklahoma -- Northeastern State University, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Southwestern Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Oklahoma -- will share in the grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The grant will establish the RUSO Violence Prevention Project. It is thought to be the first attempt among Oklahoma state colleges to address the problems of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking.
The project director will be at East Central, with a coordinator at each of the other five campuses.
