Dark, smoke-filled skies scared many Tulsa residents Thursday morning. But it all turned out to be specialized training for some Tulsa Fire Cadets. The cadets were put to the test with a live fire at Sun Oil Refinery in west Tulsa.
It’s pretty tough training. It's a liquid fire, which is much more difficult to put out. The Tulsa Fire Department says this training is especially important because of Tulsa's many oil refineries.
Tulsa Fire Department Captain Chuck French tells the News on 6 , “These fires tend to burn a lot hotter, so we've got to teach them the methods and tactics to utilize so they can put these out 'cause you just can't put them out with water. It actually floats on the surface of the water so you have to spray it a certain way.â€
