You can get your teeth taken care of and help a hungry neighbor at the same time. The Tulsa County Dental Society is hosting the Back to School on a Full Stomach campaign, so if you're visiting the dentist in the next couple weeks you're asked to bring a canned food item.
All the canned goods help restock the Neighbor for Neighbor pantry. We're told many family who are helped by Neighbor for Neighbor have school-age kids, and it’s pretty hard to learn when you're hungry. Unfortunately, that's a common problem in Oklahoma.
"Oklahoma has one of the highest rates of people that are food insecure. That means they literally do not have food and literally do not know where their next meal is coming from," said Endodontic Specialists Office Manager Mella Glenn.
The food drive typically raises anywhere from $3,000 to $7,000 worth of food for the Neighbor for Neighbor pantry.
