BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) _ Jill Young, who holds the career scoring record for South Dakota high school girls basketball, has transferred from Creighton University to South Dakota State University where she will redshirt during the 2007-08 season.
The Mitchell native has been granted a release from her national letter and scholarship at Creighton and has enrolled as a full-time student at SDSU, the university said.
At Mitchell Christian High School, Young became a starter on the basketball team in the seventh grade. She finished her high school career last winter with state career records of 3,317 points and 462 3-pointers.
NCAA rules require her to redshirt this season because she is transferring from one Division I institution to another. She will be able to practice and participate in all other team activities, and will have four years of eligibility starting with the 2008-09 season.
SDSU had a 25-6 record last season and reached the WNIT quarterfinals.
