The smallest things can sometimes teach the biggest. That's how it is with Cosmo. He's a mascot, a companion, the official greeter and sometimes even a teacher at one Tulsa school. The News On 6’s Rick Wells read about him in “Tulsa Pets Magazine,†he reports when he stopped in he found this big man on campus comes in a very small package.
At Lake Hills Montessori School, located at 10901 S. Yale, Cosmo is the official greeter. But he is much more than that, see he's on the faculty, his picture is even posted with the teachers.
"Cosmo started out just as a convenience for me," said Jodie Whitman of Lake Hills Montessori School.
He was a puppy and she didn't want to leave him home, and the arrangement has worked like magic. He sits in the office window, waits for the kids to arrive, then greets them at the door. Most dogs would be as excited as the kids, but Cosmo has grown up here, the kids are part of his life.
“He helps gets the kids respectful of things other than themselves," Whitman said.
The kids really seem to like having Cosmo around
"I like Cosmo Too," said one student.
"Me too, me too," said another.
“I think he loves his job," Whitman said.
So he's a mascot, a teacher, a playmate and friend, and he doesn't do a bad job of just being a dog.
Cosmo's full name is Cosmo Kramer Whitman, after the "Seinfeld" character Cosmo Kramer, because they have similar hair.
