LAS VEGAS (AP) _ Baltimore native and Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony scored 17 points as the U.S. basketball team rolled to a 112-69 victory over Venezuela Wednesday night in the opener of the FIBA Americas tournament.
Michael Redd also had 17 points, Amare Stoudemire scored 16 and Kobe Bryant had 14. The Americans face the U.S. Virgin Islands tonight in the final game of the regional Olympic qualifying tournament.
Bryant was making his long-awaited international debut, while Anthony was the leading American scorer last year at the world championships.
The Americans were forced to play in the qualifier after failing to win the world championships last year.
