SEATTLE (AP) _ The Seattle City Council is considering passing a law to hold the owners of the Seattle SuperSonics to their lease at the Key Arena and barring them from buying their way out of the contract.

The lease runs through September 2010.

Council members Richard McIver and Nick Licata are asking the city's lawyers to review the ordinance. The ordinance is modeled after Initiative 93, which a fan group hopes to place on the February ballot.

McIver says the City Council needs to make it clear it doesn't want the owners to buy out of their contract

McIver says he plans to introduce the ordinance when the City Council meets next on September 4.

Mayor Greg Nickels has said several times that he will hold the group of Oklahoma City businessmen who owns the NBA franchise to their lease.
