PURCELL, Okla. (AP) -- McClain County prosecutors don't plan to charge the mother of a 2-year-old Kansas boy who was left behind at a convenience store earlier this month. Assistant District Attorney Lori Puckett said Saturday the boy's mother, Erica Hinojosa of Pierceville, Kansas, was allowed to see her son Friday, but he remains in state custody.
Hinojosa has said her son was inadvertently left behind August 5th at the Love's Country Store near Purcell. The family discovered he was missing from their vehicle when they arrived home about six hours later in Kansas.
The Oklahoma Department of Human Services took the child into protective custody after store clerks found the boy wandering around. No information is available on when the boy might be returned to his family.
Puckett says investigators found no evidence of intentional abandonment.
