OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ An Oklahoma State graduate and World War II veteran who died last November is leaving his California estate to OSU's College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology.
The estate of Bernard Karen in Mission Viejo, California, is worth an estimated $750,000.
Karen studied mechanical engineering while in the U.S. Army at what was then Oklahoma A&M. After earning his degree he worked in rocket engineering for the Army.
He also collaborated with Wernher von Braun who helped put the U.S. on the path to space exploration.
Karen was also part of a group of World War II soldiers who were exposed to radiation from an atomic bomb explosion and suffered numerous illnesses related to that exposure.
OSU plans to sell Karen's estate and use the money to buy, update and maintain research equipment.
