On Thursday Tulsa County Commissioners voted to put a new river development plan to a vote. The October 9, 2007 special election will decide if the public wants to increase sales tax by four-tenths of one percent to raise an estimated $285 million for river development. One piece of Arkansas river infrastructure that could have been included in the tax plan is a South Tulsa bridge.
The News On 6 and “Tulsa World†recently asked 500 Tulsa County voters if they thought a bridge was needed. Only 39% said yes, 42% said no, while 19% didn’t know or refused to answer.
When asked where the bridge should be built 36% said they didn't care, 26% thought it should be aligned with Riverside Parkway and 25% said 121st and Yale.
We also wanted to know how voters thought it should be paid for. Thirty-seven percent thought through taxes, 40% supported a toll bridge, and 15% don’t care.
Right now the bridge remains in the early planning stages. For more on this poll check out Friday’s “Tulsa World.â€
