A warm, dry forecast for Wednesday will give way to increasing thunderstorm chances as the weekend nears. The National Weather Service said the state remained sandwiched between high pressure to the west and low pressure to the east. Moisture over the area and afternoon heating may help spark thunderstorms, but widespread development wasn't expected. On Tuesday, skies were partly to mostly cloudy and temperatures ranged from 87 degrees in McAlester and Muskogee to 94 degrees in Guymon and Hobart. The mercury peaked at 88 degrees in Guthrie, Ponca City and Tulsa and hit 91 degrees in Clinton, Gage, Lawton and Oklahoma City, according to the weather service. Skies should be mostly sunny on Wednesday, with highs reaching the 80s and 90s. Lows in the 60s and 70s are expected Wednesday night, forecasters said. Skies should be partly to mostly cloudy Thursday through Sunday, with a slight chance of storms in the southeast on Thursday and a better chance on Friday as a cool front makes a run for the state. Temperatures both days should reach the 80s and 90s before falling back into the 60s and 70s Thursday and Friday nights. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible statewide on Saturday and southeastern Oklahoma will have the best chance on Sunday. Temperatures both days should reach the 80s and 90s and lows in the 60s and 70s are possible, forecasters said.
