OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The 12 finalists for Oklahoma teacher of the year were introduced Wednesday by state Superintendent Sandy Garrett at her annual leadership conference in Oklahoma City. The finalists were chosen by four regional selection committees from a list of more than 500 teachers statewide.
Each teacher has already been named teacher of the year in his or her local school district.
One of the 12 will be chosen Oklahoma teacher of the year in September during a ceremony at the State Fair of Oklahoma.
The finalists are:
Shannon Pruitt, 4th grade teacher at Dale Public Schools
Steve Bowlware, high school math teacher in Edmond
Sallie Mullens, 1st grade teacher at Elk City Public Schools
Lori Duncan, 2nd grade teacher Fort Gibson Public Schools
Susan Petreikis, 2nd grade teacher at Jenks Public Schools
Prentice Redman, 1st grade teacher at McAlester Public Schools
Julie Angle, high school science and computer tech teacher at Medford Public Schools
Michael Payne, drama/theater teacher at Classen School of Advanced Studies in Oklahoma City
Stephanie Canada, Physical Education teacher at Shawnee Public Schools
Melanie Eick, special education teacher at Stillwater Public Schools
Debbie Snider, gifted and talented teacher at Union Public Schools
Brenda Gartrell, 5th grade science and math teacher at Woodward Public Schools
