BRISTOW, Okla. (AP) -- Trial is to begin Monday in Creek County District Court in Bristow for a woman charged in connection with the 2005 death of her 2-year-old daughter. Raye Dawn Smith is charged with child neglect and enabling child abuse in the death of Kelsey Smith-Briggs.
Authorities say the girl died of blunt force trauma to the abdomen in October 2005 just months after being returned to her mother's custody.
The child had been removed from her mother's custody because of abuse concerns.
Smith's ex-husband, Michael Porter is serving a 30 year prison term after pleading guilty to enabling child abuse.
