Hundreds of Tulsans packed the city's River Parks to salute freedom Wednesday. Fireworks will light up the sky from the 21st Street Bridge. News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports people have been there all day waiting for them.
They came armed with the essentials, coolers, lounge chairs and of course a grill. All in a hopes to pass the time as they waited for the sounds of the Fourth of July
“We will be here until it's over. I've been coming here for five years,†said spectator Debbie Morphis.
“I'm trying to get into every Centennial event that I can this year, because it's such a big event for Oklahoma and Tulsa,†said spectator Donna Hendricks.
And many are just glad the sun is shining for it.
“It's not raining! Yes! We were so happy,†said Morphis.
Even though this is one big party, some say you can't forget to salute those who fought for such freedom.
“I'm proud. My dad was in the Air Force. I'm a Blue Star mom, and I've always supported the vets and the troops and I will always. People don't realize what they do,†Hendricks said.
Of course, that's what Independence Day is all about.
