OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Burns Hargis resigned Monday from the Oklahoma A&M Board of Regents, saying he wants to evaluate the possibility of serving as the president of Oklahoma State University.
In a letter to the chairman of the Oklahoma A&M Board of Regents, Hargis said it would be inappropriate to consider the OSU presidency while serving on the board.
Hargis is the vice chairman of Bank of Oklahoma and is a commentator on NewsChannel Four's "Flashpoint" political program.
Doug Burns, the chairman of the OSU presidential search committee, declined to comment on potential candidates but said they currently are accepting nominations and applications.
Former OSU President David Schmidly resigned in February after being named president of the University of New Mexico. Marlene Strathe currently is serving as interim president.
