EDMOND, Okla. (AP) -- Arcadia Lake at Edmond is being closed and will remain shut down for the Fourth of July and possibly for weeks because of heavy rain.
City Parks and Recreation director Jim Bowlin says the lake is more than ten feet above normal. Officials say the equestrian trail, bike trail, beaches, boat ramps, covered fishing dock and courtesy docks are all under water.
Campers already at the lake were moved to higher ground and are safe and officials say no more campsites are open.
The lake was built in 1987 for flood control but because area rivers and streams are swollen from recent rainfall no water can be released from the lake.
