OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A man involved in a domestic disturbance was shot and killed following a foot chase with a police officer, authorities said. Officer Dustin Motley was chasing the armed suspect through an Oklahoma City neighborhood about 7 p.m. Tuesday when the shooting occurred, Sgt. Paco Balderrama said.
Dead at the scene was Tyrone Bills, 43.
Balderrama said after Motley caught Bills, the two fought and Bills attempted to grab a gun he was carrying and Motley drew his gun and shot him.
``The officer was forced to defend himself,'' Balderrama said.
Balderrama said he did not know if Bills shot at the officer or how many shots the officer fired. He also did not know the exact type of gun Bills had, nor whether it was loaded. Neighbors said they heard at least four shots.
The officer was chasing the man as part of a domestic disturbance call. Police were told the man had a gun and had kicked some family members out of a unit at a nearby apartment complex.
The man started running when he saw police arrive at the apartment complex, Balderrama said.
Motley, 23, has been an Oklahoma City police officer since June 2006 and was placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation of the shooting.
``This is very traumatic for the officer, also _ to take somebody's life,'' Balderrama said.
