ALVA, Okla. (AP) -- The woman believed to be Oklahoma's oldest resident has died. Kristine Klostermyer Brown died Wednesday at an Alva nursing home at age 110.
Brown was born in Bates County, Missouri, on September 8th, 1897. When she was a child her family moved to Oklahoma where her uncle had staked a claim near Perry during a land run.
Brown studied math at Columbia University and became a teacher starting her career in one-room schoolhouses.
She later became a professor at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and at age 65 was named "Teacher of the Year" by the Oklahoma Education Association.
Historian M.J. Alexander says Brown's death leaves 109-year-old Haddie Payne of Stratford as the oldest known living Oklahoman.
