An overnight traffic accident in Tulsa County claims the lives of two Sand Springs residents and left a number of electrical customers without power. It happened shortly before 4 am Tuesday just west of Sand Springs.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the car was going westbound on Wekiwa Road at about 100 miles an hour when it went off the road and hit a utility pole. OHP troopers say the car struck a utility pole causing the car to flip upside down. The accident knocked down power lines, which caused an outage in the area.
That outage affected over 1,700 customers. One of those customers, Anderson Schools in Osage County canceled classes for Tuesday.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says both people in the car, 26-year-old Codi Rector and 20-year-old Robert Whitmer, were pinned in the car for almost two hours. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident happened just west of the intersection of Wekiwa Road and 193rd West Avenue.
