One of the country's biggest rivalries took center stage on Friday night at Chapman Stadium in front of a packed house. The Jenks Trojans defeated the Union Redskins 42-24 for the 6A State Football Championship. The News On 6’s Ashli Sims reports this was the sixth time Union and Jenks have met in the playoffs. The recent trend showed the team who wins the regular season matchup tends to lose the playoff game. History repeated itself and it didn't bode well for the Redskins.

Union headed into the game undefeated. The Redskins came out on top in the regular season thriller, beating Jenks 43-42 in overtime. For the Trojans, that was their only loss on the season.

The competition between the football powerhouses has propelled the Jenks-Union rivalry to epic proportions. These teams make national headlines, star in feature length films and cable documentaries, but all beyond all the hype, Friday night was about the gold ball.
