Enroll now for dementia care certification offered by Tulsa Community College and the Alzheimer’s Association. Classes are scheduled for spring of 2008. All Classes are held at the Corporate Learning Center, 6111 E. Skelly Drive in Tulsa. Dementia Care Certification for Administrators: This 12-hour course will fulfill the requirements to receive the Dementia Care for Administrators certification recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association Oklahoma/Arkansas Chapter, Northeast Area Health Education Center and Tulsa Community College. This course will give participants a better understanding of how to care for persons with Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias. This course includes all the content of the Dementia Care Certification plus a leadership module to help administrators, nurses, and other group leaders foster teamwork to improve care coordination and reinforce best care practices. Course fee includes all materials. Cost is $139. The class begins January 26 and runs through February 2. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Dementia Care Certification: This 9-hour course will fulfill the requirements to receive the Dementia Care certification recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association Oklahoma/Arkansas Chapter, Northeast Area Health Education Center and Tulsa Community College. This course will teach participants to understand Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, and how changes in the brain contribute to different behaviors and communication limitations. Participants will also learn techniques on how to enhance mealtime, reduce pain and identify resident abilities and preferences for engaging socially and will gain knowledge on how to make meaningful connections with residents. Course fee includes all materials. Cost is $109. Classes are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. January 26 through February 2.

Advanced Dementia Care: This advanced course will focus on resident wandering, resident falls, and physical restraint - free care. The goals are to give professional care providers the knowledge and skill needed to assist residents in each of the three areas of focus. Course fee includes all materials. Prerequisite: Dementia Care Certification is highly recommended. The class will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 1.

Dementia End-Of-Life Care Certification: The goals of providing effective end-of-life care are to: minimize physical, emotional and spiritual distress; maximize well-being; and, ensure communication with resident, family and care team. Course fee includes all materials. Cost: $39. Prerequisite: Dementia Care Certification is highly recommended.
