OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The self-proclaimed leader of a white supremacist group who already is facing a first-degree murder charge now faces a new charge of assaulting an Oklahoma City police officer. Darrell Lynn Madden, 37, was charged Monday after he allegedly threw a remote control, hot soup, a bottle of urine and other items at police officers assigned to guard his hospital room in Oklahoma City.
Madden was taken to the hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to his arm after he was shot by Ardmore police earlier this month.
Police said they shot Madden on November 7 as he fired at traffic in an attempt to steal a car shortly after Bradley Qualls was found gunned down outside an Ardmore apartment complex.
Madden is charged with murder in Carter County in Qualls' death. A hearing had been scheduled for Monday but was canceled because Madden had to be taken back to the Oklahoma City hospital, said Craig Ladd, Carter County district attorney.
According to an investigator's affidavit, Madden was yelling and cursing at officers on November 14, complaining about being in leg restraints when he picked up a remote control and threw it at the officer guarding him. According to the officer, he also threw a cup and was reaching for other items to throw when officers restrained him.
The day before, Madden is accused of throwing a bowl of hot soup and a bottle full of urine at another officer who was guarding the room.
A search warrant was served last month at Madden's trailer home in McClain County related to the disappearance of an Oklahoma City man whose body was found in a creek bed near Madden's home.
Police have not named Madden as a suspect in Domer's death and haven't speculated publicly about what motivated the killing.
