ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- The Magic are the first team to beat the Boston Celtics this season, pulling out a 104-102 triumph at Orlando.
The Celtics dropped to 8-and-1 despite shooting 53 percent and outscoring the Magic by 15 in the second half. Ray Allen hit a three-pointer to get the Celtics within 103-102. But Rashard Lewis hit a free throw before Paul Pierce missed an off-balance jumper with time running out.
Dwight Howard scored 24 points and Lewis added 22 as the Magic improved to 9-and-2.
Jameer Nelson had 18 points for the Magic, who led by as many as 20 before holding on for their fourth straight win.
Pierce paced all scorers with 28 points and Kevin Garnett added 14 and 11 rebounds.
