PONCA CITY, Okla. (AP) _ School officials in Ponca City say declining enrollment may lead to school closures in this north-central Oklahoma city.
Statistics show the number of students attending Ponca City's eight elementary schools this year has dropped by 213 to one-thousand-826.
Districtwide, enrollment has steadily declined since the 1999-2000 school year, when more than 57-hundred students were enrolled. Enrollment is now at about 54-hundred for the 2003-2004 school year.
The two schools being considered for closure are Garfield Academy and Washington Elementary.
School officials say Garfield Academy has the lowest enrollment and Washington Elementary is bounded by four other elementary school sites.
